The smallest of all California Community Colleges, CMC is situated on 80 acres of gorgeous desert land east of Joshua Tree. Serving close to 2,000 students, CMC offers associate degrees and certificate programs in 24 fields of study.

Classes are offered at the Joshua Tree Campus and in various other locations convenient to neighborhood residents. CMC’s Developmental Education program provides all adults of the Morongo Basin the opportunity to enroll in classes directed at completing a high school diploma and/or GED.

Since 1982, Copper Mountain College Foundation’s task has been to maximize educational opportunities in the Morongo Basin. Last year, generous donors awarded:

  • $148,650 in scholarships, including $25,000 in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) Scholarships.
  • Funded books, supplies, and uniforms for nine EMT students through the Jeff Tabor Memorial EMT Scholarship.
  • Paid the practice testing for all Vocational Nursing (VN) students resulting in a 100% pass rate for their Nursing Boards.
  • Secured all equipment for the newly established Wildland Fire Academy at CMC.
  • Supported five Greenleaf Scholars with full-ride scholarships for a college degree.

The largest (and most fun) fundraiser of the year is the annual Festival of Wreaths. Local businesses, service clubs, and individuals create fantastical wreaths, centerpieces, and ornaments to be auctioned off to raise money for CMC students.

The wreaths are not only gorgeous, but some are also full of gift cards and certificates, jewelry, electronics, hotel stays, even cash! The wreaths are on display at local businesses for two weeks prior to the event.

Then they culminate in a lively auction in the Bell Center Gymnasium at 6162 Rotary Way, Joshua Tree, on Sunday, November 21, 2021. Doors open at 2 pm to view the unique creations, with bidding beginning at 3 pm.

Small bites, drinks, and desserts are served. Tickets are $10 at the door. Check out the CMC Foundation wreath page at https://cmcfow.wordpress.com/ to view past events as well as keep up with the 2021 creations.

We look forward to seeing you and your friends at one of the Morongo Basin’s favorite holiday traditions, the annual Festival of Wreaths at Copper Mountain College. A short disclaimer, we have gotten fairly proficient at pivoting for events and while we are planning for a November 21, 2021, grand holiday celebration and live auction in the Bell Center Gymnasium, we will remain flexible!
