CMC Physics & Astronomy Professor John Watkins Honored

On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, part-time CMC Physics & Astronomy Professor, John Watkins, was honored with the 2023-24 Outstanding Teacher Award at the Twentynine Palms Rotary Interact meeting.

With his NASA background, Professor Watkins brings a passion for our dark desert skies, a zeal for teaching, and a collaborative spirit to Copper Mountain College.  Over his two years at CMC, he has worked with Sky’s The Limit Observatory and Nature Center to establish a satellite campus for CMC astronomy classes at the observatory.  He enthusiastically shares his solar telescope with MUSD students (and Spike), nurturing their love for the universe and the college.
