Sandy Smith, Executive Director of Copper Mountain College Foundation.

Originally from West Allis, WI, Smith earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in International Studies from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh being slightly sidetracked by marriage and children but ultimately completing and going on to earn a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma (OU).

While living in Okinawa for six years, Sandy had her first taste of public administration as the Program Coordinator for the University of Oklahoma graduate degree programs. Upon arriving in the Morongo Basin in 2001, Sandy assumed the helm of Reach Out Morongo Basin, a faith-based non-profit dedicated to informal caregiving for seniors and the disabled. This position honed her fundraising, marketing and public relations skills.

Sandy Smith was hired in July 2011 as the Executive Director of Copper Mountain College Foundation where her previous university experience, fundraising acumen and intimate knowledge of the community were a nice fit for Copper Mountain Community College District. In her time at the Foundation, Smith has led the charge in building the Christine Proudfoot Student Activity Center and Bud & Betty’s Place for Veterans as well as establishing the Copper Mountain College Athletic Booster Club to fund the inaugural year of collegial athletics at Copper Mountain College. She is a passionate fundraiser for Copper Mountain College and strives to make fundraising FUN because as you can see, FUNdraising starts with FUN.

Smith is an active member of the Twentynine Palms Rotary Club, serving as President in 2005-2006 and twice as Assistant Governor for Rotary District 5330. She currently serves on the Basin Wide Foundation Board of Directors. Her interests include travel; she has visited five continents thus far. Bowling, bingo and enjoying being a Grandma to Juniper, Claire and Colton are also top of her To Do list.
