Kim Martin
Biography
Hello! I’m Prof Martin, though most of my students (both young and adult) know me as “Ms. Kim.” With over 30 years of experience in early childhood education and child development, I bring warmth, expertise, and genuine passion to everything I do.
My journey began in high school when I discovered my calling while working as a classroom assistant in a childcare program. I followed my heart through community college, undergrad, and graduate school, wearing many hats along the way: preschool teacher, summer camp director, curriculum creator, staff trainer, and adjunct instructor. In Spring 2018, I found my perfect fit at CMC.
At CMC, I wear multiple hats with enthusiasm. I teach students pursuing careers in early childhood education, serve as a professional growth advisor for Child Development Permit holders, and love connecting with the community about ECE programs and opportunities. My collaborative spirit recently sparked an exciting partnership: our ECE program donated a collection of new books to Greenleaf Library, creating a growing Early Childhood Literature collection that continues to expand today!
When I step away from the classroom, you’ll find me exploring nature with my camera in hand, getting my hands dirty working with clay, doodling, enjoying the meditative rhythm of slow stitching, or creating collages. I also love curling up at home with a good sci-fi story, taking long drives and listening to true crime and science podcasts, or spending quality time with the friends and family who mean the world to me.
My dedication to nurturing both children and the adults who care for them shines through in everything I do. My students don’t just learn from my expertise, they’re inspired by my genuine love for the field and my belief in the power of early childhood education to change lives.
