What’s up everyone, my name is Louis Medina. I’m a seasonal student at Copper Mountain College, and I’ve been rocking with CMC since late 2024, working toward a path in business and art.

In early 2025, I stepped into my very first college art class – Introduction to Two-Dimensional Design with Professor Chloe Allred and honestly, that class flipped a switch for me. It pushed me deeper into character creation while opening my mind to new mediums and ways to express myself.
Not long after the semester started, life hit. I was dealing with job struggles that started messing with my head, and I seriously questioned if I should even keep going. Then one day in late February, Chloe came up to me and asked if I’d be down to be part of the April student showcase sharing “Who Am I?” and my journey at CMC.

Sounds cool, right? Yeah… not for me. I’ve always been the type to stay low, do my thing quietly, so the idea of speaking like that had me nervous. Presentation day came fast. I walked into a room full of board members and staff, but in the back corner, I saw my people. Friends, family, and my TAY family. That grounded me.

My message was simple but real: your past doesn’t define your future, it’s just one chapter in your story. Truth is, I wasn’t speaking for the room in front of me. I was speaking to the youth in the back, the ones going through the same kind of struggles I faced growing up. And you could feel it in the room… something connected.

As an artist, I’m always creating. During my time at CMC, I started making work that even surprised me. Some of those pieces still have me second guessing. My style pulls from street art, cartoons, and new school tattoo culture. It’s rooted in that youthful energy graffiti, animation, that raw creative spark.

My style has evolved, but it’s still me. The biggest shift? My inspiration. These days, my work is driven by mental health and real-life experiences. At the end of the day, creativity lives in all of us and no one can take that away.

After the presentation, I got invited to be part of the school art show. Being in a room full of talented artists, I’ll be honest I didn’t even feel like I belonged. I was ready to dip early, stay in my lane like always. But Chloe stopped me and told me to stick around for the awards. I figured, maybe I’d get something small, if anything. I was wrong. I was awarded a membership to the Hi-Desert Artist Gallery.

That moment? I didn’t see it coming. Being part of a gallery wasn’t even on my radar. But stepping into that space changed everything. The Hi-Desert Artists community welcomed me in and helped me grow, not just as an artist, but as a person. A few months later, I found myself planning my very first solo show. And now? I’m a board member, collaborating, learning, and building with some incredibly talented and genuine people.

There’s a vibe at HDA you really can’t explain, It’s a mix of styles, personalities, and energy that makes it special. In the last 18 months, Copper Mountain College and the Hi-Desert Artists Gallery have completely shifted my path as an artist and as a person.

This August, I invite you all to my solo show, “Sacred Art.”
