Hi, folks. Darren Otten here, Superintendent/President of Copper Mountain College. This is a follow up…
Every year, the Campaign for College Opportunity honors California Community Colleges and California State University (CSU) campuses for their efforts in implementing two landmark policies: equitable placement implementation (AB 705 and 1705, Irwin), which maximizes student success in transfer-level courses at California Community Colleges, and Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) implementation, which has empowered more students to transfer between community colleges and CSUs.
On October 23, 2025, the Campaign for College Opportunity will combine both recognitions in Pathway Champions: Celebrating Colleges Building Seamless Paths to Student Success to honor the 40 California campuses that are paving the pathway to opportunity for thousands of students by removing barriers to the courses students need to transfer, ensuring students transfer with a degree, strengthening their access to four-year universities, and cultivating their talents for a brighter future. We are proud to announce that Copper Mountain College will be among those Pathway Champions of Placement being recognized.
“I am very excited to share that the Campaign for College Opportunity has recognized Copper Mountain College as a 2025 Pathway Champion of Placement,” noted CMC Superintendent/President Daren Otten. “CMC is being honored for outstanding achievement in ensuring that more students succeed in critical transfer-level English courses, helping them reach their academic goals more quickly and creating more seamless pathways to transfer.
“This is an amazing honor that we should all be very proud of,” Otten continued. “In particular, I want to commend our English faculty members for their dedication to student success. CMC’s English faculty includes full-time faculty members Heidi Gibbons, Christina Kennedy, and Samantha St. Claire, along with part-time faculty members Jamie Anderson, Victor Morales, Michael Sifter, Tim Stanford, Rob Wanless, and Elle Weatherup. The commitment and care that each of these faculty members demonstrates in supporting our students is truly exceptional.
The public is invited to join Campaign for College Opportunity President Jessie Ryan, California Community Colleges Deputy Chancellor Dr. Rowena Tomaneng, higher education leaders, and students live on Zoom at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, as they recognize the 2025 Pathway Champions, including Copper Mountain College, for their work in uplifting students and strengthening pathways to success.
