Vice President of Academic and Student Success Community Forum at Copper Mountain College

Copper Mountain College (CMC) has named Dr. Charles A. Abasa-Nyarko and Dr. David M. Smith as finalists for the District’s Vice President of Academic and Student Success position. The District’s goal is to have the Vice President in place before the 2018 Fall Semester begins on August 20, 2018.

The Board of Trustees would like to invite the Morongo Basin community to attend the Community Forums: June 26, 2018 at 11 am; and June 27, 2018 at 11 am in the Bell Center Community Room. Additionally, there will be a video recording of the forums on CMC’s website (www.cmccd.edu) for public viewing. The Community Forums will be an opportunity to meet each finalist, and allow CMC employees and community members to ask questions of the candidates.

Dr. Charles A. Abasa-Nyarko previously served as the Vice President of Research for MyNcap in Fife, WA from 2015-2017. From 2013-2015 he was Vice President of Instruction for Central Oregon Community College in Bend, OR. In addition, he served as the Executive Planner for Baltimore City Community College in Baltimore, MD from 2012-2013. Previously, he served as Vice President of Academic Affairs for Bunker Hill Community College in Boston, MA from 2006-2008. Dr. Abasa-Nyarko was awarded his Ph.D. in International Studies from the University of South Carolina in 1988.

Dr. David M. Smith is currently serving as Dean, Regional and Online Campuses at the University of La Verne in La Verne, CA since 2015. From 2008-2015 he served as the Vice President of Instruction and Student Affairs at Colorado Northwestern Community College in Rangely, CO. Dr. Smith also served as Chief Administrative Officer at Lamar Community College in Lamar, CO from 2003-2008. Dr. Smith was awarded his Ph.D. in English from the University of Denver in 1998.
