The Art and Science students of Copper Mountain College (CMC) are engaging in a creative collaboration for Desert Bounty, an online art and science exhibition featuring native desert plants as subjects.
The exhibition is created in partnership with the Morongo Basin Big Read, which aims to build community and inspire conversation through the joy of sharing a good book. The 2020 featured book Lab Girl by author Hope Jahren, inspires the botanical theme.

Desert Bounty will be available for viewing September 12th through October 12, 2020 and will feature student drawings, paintings, and photographs, along with scientific descriptions for each illustrated plant. The selected plants are in direct response to the beautiful landscape work of Jeffrey DeMorrow, Groundskeeper for CMC, whose unique installations are featured on the College campus. The online exhibition celebrating Art and Science education is a program of the NEA Big Read Morongo Basin presented by Arts Connection in collaboration with Copper Mountain College and the Copper Mountain College Foundation. The NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
Additional Big Read programs co-presented with Copper Mountain College include the drive-in screening of Fantastic Fungi, a film by Louie Schwartzberg on September 12, 2020 and a book discussion centered on the themes of Lab Girl, hosted by the Greenleaf Library on September 30, 2020.
