Donors to the Copper Mountain College Foundation recently made a significant difference in the lives of the college’s current Vocational Nursing students. The Foundation is assisting all CMC VN students in the Class of 2023 with an Assessment Testing Institute Test Prep Package. At $1,305.93 per student, 13 VN students will receive this review, practical test, and directed tutoring to assist them in taking their nursing boards, NCLEX, next summer.

With the support of its donors, the Copper Mountain College Foundation has funded this test prep since 2012, resulting in VN students at the college accomplishing a near-perfect first-time pass rate for their nursing boards. Copper Mountain College’s Vocational Nursing Program is ranked as number two in the State of California according to PracticalNursing.org, an organization of nurses built to guide those interested in pursuing a career in healthcare.

The investment in support of Copper Mountain College Nursing students totals about $17,000 annually, and comes from generous donors in the community. This year, three major donors made this assistance possible: the Joshua Tree Rotary Club; Jim and Jeannine Sabel; and, the Yucca Valley Sunset Rotary Club, supplemented by Foundation fundraising events such as the annual Festival of Wreaths.
“These students pour their heart and souls into becoming nurses and to be able to ease their burden with this funding is a great joy,” said Sandy Smith, Executive Director of the Copper Mountain College Foundation. “Most people want to help. They don’t always know how. They don’t always have the time. CMC Foundation becomes the conduit for donors to be able to change lives. This is a great example of how together donors and some fundraising activities can make a difference in someone’s life, in someone’s family, and in someone’s future.”

Each year the Copper Mountain College Foundation strives to maximize the educational opportunities in the Morongo Basin by meeting students’ basic needs of transportation, technology, books and tuition as well as funding programs on campus such as the HOWL, Athletics and Career Technical Education (CTE) courses of nursing, fire, and criminal justice. The Foundation works to update college facilities making the campus student-centric and a place that is welcoming and safe for all in our community.
