SUMMARY:Bell Center hosts Sheepdogs documentary film screening and art exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Meyer Stump Productions is proud to present an art exhibition and screening of the film “Sheepdogs\,” directed by Brian Knappmiller. This documentary movie features four Morongo\nBasin veterans of the US Marines and Navy\, telling their stories of injury and healing. Shot by insurgents in an ambush\, wounded in a base attack in Fallujah\, getting cancer possibly as a result of military service\, almost losing a leg in a motorcycle accident but saved by a fellow Marine—these service people tell their stories of pain and triumph\, resilience\, and on-going healing. \nThe film was shot entirely in the Morongo Basin and includes music from local artists.  The art exhibition presents Ted Meyer’s monoprints and photographs of the subjects’ physical\nscars\, and their health incident stories.  The military members and filmmakers will be present for a short question and answer session after the film screening. \nFree and open to the public.\nFree parking at Copper Mountain College Bell Center. \nThis project was funded in part by a grant from the California Arts Council\, a state agency.\n@calartscouncil \nThe Creative Corps Grant was managed by the Creative Inland SoCal. @creativeinlandsocal \nThis event is not produced by Copper Mountain College.

SUMMARY:Fighting Cacti Girls Basketball Camp
DESCRIPTION:Join the coaching staff of CMC’s Fighting Cacti Women’s Basketball Team for a skill and development basketball camp for girls in the 7th – 12th grade.  The camp will be Saturday and Sunday\, April 6 & 7 at the Bell Center on the CMC campus in Joshua Tree. \nPlease register with the QR code or the link below. We need to prepare each group according to their skill level. Players may move to different levels depending on their strengths and skills they may need more development work in. This can sometimes give an outcome of a player being in more than one level/group\, and that is totally okay!! They could move to an advanced level for offense\, and a developmental level for defense. We want to meet each player where they are and give them tools to improve. \nThis camp is open to any club\, community\, or school players female players 12-17 years old.  We also want to invite any college students that are thinking of joining our team\, or transfer players wanting to meet the coaches and get a tour of the Copper Mountain College Campus. \nOur team of Instructors will be there to inspire and support every participant through every session. Our instructors are typically College grads who have played at the College level\, we will also have basketball coaches with High School and/or AAU experience. Coach Clement played at SBCC\, then finished her basketball career at CSUEB earning her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and is also a Certified Coach for Mental Performance Mastery\, Coach Whiteside was nominated for the McDonald’s All-American team. Playing Division 1 basketball at LIU Brooklyn and later Division 2 at Biola University shows her dedication to the sport. Maya must have had an incredible journey playing at both levels and offers valuable feedback to players and parents. \nOur objectives are to give the roadmap\, teachings\, inspiration\, and tools to improve players to have confidence\, get minutes\, & stand out on the floor.  We will work on developing a mindset needed to dominate the competition. \nBeyond skills\, this camp equips players with a champion’s mindset for their career — and life. Through our teachings and special competitions\, players have this mindset strengthened every day:\nAdversity – How to be poised in every situation.\nResilience – How to build mental toughness with every decision.\nMistake-response – How to respond to mistakes with composure.\n• Shooting form and technique\n• Offense Attack Training\n• Scoring Footwork\n• Read and attack ball screens – defenders.\n• Mistake Response\n• Positional breakdown (Ball handling\, wing play\, post play)\n• Defensive principles \n
