College Health Sciences Department. Thank you for your
interest in our professional and vocational medical programs. The campus is
nestled in a segment of the Southeastern California Mojave
desert; 35 miles from Palm Springs, California; and
just minutes from Joshua Tree National Park. |

Registered Nursing |

The Associate Degree Nursing Program |
|
The Associate Degree Nursing
Program - Registered Nursing is approved by the California
Board of Registered Nursing (BRN). The program is comprised
of 37 units of Nursing Theory and Clinical Experience plus
36-40 units of science and general education courses.
Clinical experience is concurrently provided in hospitals
and other health care facilities in the community. Theory
and clinical experiences are supported by time spent in the
Health Sciences Nursing Resource Lab which provides
opportunities for supervised learning and skills practice
utilizing simulation mannequins, healthcare equipment and
supplies, videos, DVD’s, computerized instruction and other
tools. |

Vocational
Nursing (VN) Program |

The Vocational Nursing
Program |
|
The VN Program prepares men and women for entry level nursing positions, working under the direction of a Registered Nurse or licensed physician. VNs are employed in acute or long-term care facilities, doctors’ offices or clinics. VNs assist in data collection, plan and implement nursing care, administer medications and treatments with knowledge of therapeutic results, and maintain a safe environment for patients and their families. VNs are responsible for maintaining current knowledge and skills, and serving at the highest level of competency at all times.
The Vocational Nursing Program requires attendance at classes five days out of every seven. Some portion of these days may occur on weekends, evening and/or weekend hours.

The Nursing Assistant

The Nursing Assistant (NA)
program prepares men and women to assist with the routine
care and treatment of patients in health care facilities.
Working under the direction of the nursing and medical
staff, activities of the certified nursing assistant include
providing personal care, maintaining safety, and assisting
with activities of daily living. |

Home Health Aid |

The Home Health Aide Program |
|
The Home
Health Aide program prepares men and women to assist with
the routine care and treatments of clients in their homes.
These services include personal health care as well as food
purchasing, meal planning, laundry, and light housekeeping. |

Emergency Medical
Technician |

The Emergency Medical Technician
Program |
|
The Emergency
Medical Technician (EMT) Program prepares individuals to
recognize illnesses and injury symptoms and to provide legal
permissible emergency treatment set forth by the standards
of the State of California, and the San Bernardino County
Health Department (SBCHD). |
