There are an overwhelming amount of web sites concerning college admission and financial aid. While many sites counsel students on the admission process, the Transfer Empowerment counseling staff should be your first contact. However, the web is an excellent tool to guide you through the transfer process. Since it is impossible to visit every site, following is a list of free resources that we have found to be most useful.
Exploration and General Information
The National Association of College Admission Counseling's web site has some great information for parents and students. Click on the Parent and Student button for information on Online College Fairs, a student's rights and responsibilities in the admission process, web resources, the Common Application, choosing an independent counselor, and college guidebooks. The Web Resources section has information for Student Athletes, Students with Disabilities, Multicultural Resources, and Career Resources.
CollegeBoard - A must for students-- this site not only has information about college entrance examinations, but it offers a wealth of information choosing and paying for college.
The Princeton Review site offers information on their testing services and publications. It is also a great tool to explore career and college choices.
Peterson's is another great resource for all aspects of the college enrollment process. Students can learn about thousands of colleges, get advice on the admissions process, explore majors, and map out a plan to pay for college.
California Student Aid Commission and EdFund are two sites sponsored by the California Student Aid Commission to keep students, parents and counselors up to date on the state and federally funded financial aid programs. You will find information on the Board of Governor Fee Waiver Program, Cal Grants, scholarships, the federal financial aid programs, Work Study programs and loan information.
EdWise is a financial planning guide which provides clear, concise information to help students make smart money decisions while in college and after.
FastWeb has become an invaluable resource to families and educational counselors. With over 400,000 listings, the site has virtually eliminated the need to pore through volumes of scholarship information.
FinAid (same as www.FAFSA.org) is an easy to read overview of the various financial aid programs that are out there. There are sections on Grants, Loans, Scholarships, and Military Aid. Many links are available from this site.
FAFSA is the US Department of Education's website and is the place to get started on the financial aid application process. The site will even link families to information about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in Spanish.
