Programs Available

Book Loan

A book loan program is available to eligible students with a vocational major, who are receiving a Board of Governor's registration fee waiver. To qualify, students must also fall under one of the following categories:


Students with disabilities

Single parents, including single pregnant women
Displaced homemakers
Students from economically disadvantaged families (including those with foster children)
Individuals preparing for non-traditional training and employment
Eligible students need to submit an application to the WDC, as well as a copy of their class schedule as soon as they register for classes. Books are available on a first-come first-served basis, and may run out. Applications can be obtained at the Workforce Center.


CalWORKs

The Copper Mountain College (CMC) CalWORKs program is the college portion of California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids which is the welfare reform program established to help parents of young children get training and employment.

The program at CMC is a partnership with the County of San Bernardino, and local businesses and governmental agencies to provide assistance to eligible students to obtain their educational degrees and certificates. We also have limited funds for childcare and work study for CalWORKs Students.

Referrals for the program come through the Jobs & Employment Services Department offices in Yucca Valley and 29 Palms.


ESL - English as a Second Language

The English as a Second Language program operates on an open-entry, open-exit basis, and offers instruction at all levels of proficiency for persons who are learning English as a Second Language. Both grammar and conversation are covered.

All persons 18 years of age or older, regardless of their educational background, are welcome to participate in this program.


GED Testing

G.E.D. stands for General Educational Development. It is a battery of five tests which cover five broad subject areas people study in high school. GED Pretests can be given anytime in the Workforce Development Center. Those who successfully complete the Official GED test will receive their high school equivalency diploma from the State of California.

Students must register in the Office of Student Services before noon on the day preceding the test. Registration the day of the test will not be accepted. California driver's license, passport, or military identification with photo must be presented at the time of registration, and on the day of the test. Students must be present promptly at 8:00 a.m.

Testing will be limited to the first 15 students each month.

$100.00 (Due at time of registration.)
$27.00 to retest in Writing.
$24.00 to retest in all other Modules.
