    March 26, 2014

Copper Mountain College Foundation is proud to announce Timothy Hesse of Joshua Tree as the 2014 Greenleaf Scholarship winner.

Hesse is a senior at Yucca Valley High School and comes highly recommended by his teachers including Mr. Jeff Evans, Yucca Valley High School Social Studies Department Chair who commented, “his enthusiastic attitude toward learning and his dedication to excellence has been a positive example to others.”  His friendly face can also be seen at the Yucca Valley Jack-in-the-Box where he has worked for the past two years.

Timothy Hesse was chosen out of a very competitive field to receive this year’s Greenleaf Scholarship.  The scholarship will pay tuition, books and fees plus living expenses while Timothy is a student at Copper Mountain College in addition to paying those same expenses while he completes a baccalaureate degree at a four year university.

The Foundation will host a Greenleaf Award Ceremony on April 10th at 5:30 pm in the Front Foyer of the Bell Center to honor Timothy Hesse and recognize the four other finalists for the Greenleaf Scholarship including: Jacynda Guttierez, Crystalfaith Rickman, Katelyn Sage, and Karina Vanegas.

Endowed by local banker F. Roy Greenleaf Jr., the scholarship is awarded each year to a promising student that is interested in learning, success oriented, has performed successfully in school and shows a desire to return to the Morongo Basin upon completion of his education.  Hesse plans on attaining a degree in Business Administration in preparation for a career in product design.

Hesse stated in his application, “I have spent all my life in the high-desert, and I would like to finish my education right where it started, in Joshua Tree.  Then I can start giving back to the community that has given so much to me.”

The ceremony is open to the public.  For more information on the Greenleaf Scholarship, visit
